There are 2 mod's in the Hump that most people ask/talk about.
1. Storage in the Hump. (Done it)
2. Hump/Handrail. (Done it)

Hump Storage Mod:

I used camlok's for the job on mine.  It was a very quick job once I had all the parts.  As you can see from the picture, I removed the bolts from the base and the spring nuts from the hump.  I then rivetted the camlok receptacles in place and enlarged the holes slightly.  The camloks themselves required another small enlargement of the base holes to accomodate them and they are kept in place by a locking washer that you press on.  Pretty simple.  I chose wing fasteners to make it the easiest to open and close it up.  The Hump will hold either a shirt, my heavy gloves, or other compressable items.

Hump/Hand Rail  Modification Questions:

Why do I want to cut on my new bike and do this mod?  What does it do for me?

There are 2 reasons I did the mod.  The main one is looks, and the second is ease of transition.

Let me explain the second:
To go from hump to 2 up w/ the rail you need to pop the hump, remove the 4 bolts, get the rail, replace the bushing, bolt the rail in place, pop the seat in, find a place to store the hump bushings, store the hump in a safe place, and, finally go off riding.
With the rail more permenant you only have to pop the hump, snap in the seat, store the hump, and go.
  2 minute transition w/ it mod'd, 10 to 15 minutes stock.

Did the dealer know what those 2 washer looking things were when you bought it?  Mine did not.  I recognized them as bushings for something and figured it out when I got home and went to switch to the hump.

Finished Hump/Handrail Mod.

Here's how I did the Hump/Hand rail Mod:

It took a little over an hour using patience and a die grinder with a rotary file. (When I was done, I installed it and then checked it after about 3 weeks of riding, I did the final cleanup after that.  This allowed some time in place so I could see if there was any rubbing spots to smooth out.)

Take the hump off, remove the latch end bolts, loosen the hook end bolts...

Install the hand rail,

Latch the base and gently draw/scribe the front and back edge of where the hump hits the hand rail.

Grind small amount off at a time and check how it fits, then repeat until it fits without touching the hand rail. (here's a hint so ya do not mess up the finish to much: Grind off on the inside of the hump, then out on the finished edge.  This'll create less "burn" in the plastic.)

When you think you've got it correct, put all the bolts back into the hump and see how it latches, if it touches the hand rail, repeat the above until you have a small amount of clearance.

The biggest thing to remember when doing this or any cut job is Patience, lots of it.  Take your time!
